not sure if anyone else finds this but it seems like most cars are getting worst as far as designs go. The only thing I recall that looks better than the previous generation are a few things that haven't changed much, besides the GTR

the nissan Z cars seem to get uglier with every generation.
The newer civics/corollas are just ugly compared to the ones 10-20 years old. I mainly noticed this because i've driven older ones and my dad looked at a new one and said it was better looking, and i asked if he was serious.
RX-8 is definetly ugly compared to it's younger brother RX-7 of any generation.

I totally agree. The Civics/Corollas look like eggs, and I find the RX8 kind dumpy opposed to the RX7. Im pretty dissapointed with the styles nowadays. All the manufacturers I grew up with Toyota, Chevrolet, Nissan , Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda, and Subaru seem to have a bland, ugly, and unimpressive look to them nowadays.

For general consumer cars, I agree for the most part. But a lot of the time they never look that good anyway, and it's easy to understand why if you think about it for a bit. General consumer cars, in general, try to strike a style that's generic and inoffensive, so that it will appeal to as broad a range of tastes as possible.

That said, there are a few cars for the masses I do enjoy looking at:
- Honda Fit (I like the angular look)
- Honda Civic (you guys may not like it, but I like the spaceship-style design.
- Chevy Cobalt coupe (the sedan looks nasty, but I really like the round tail lights the coupe's got)
- Mazda3 (both the new one and the last generation look really nice. I almost bought one of the Speed3's, actually)
- Ford Fusion (the front grille looks a bit overdone but I still like the whole look)
- Ford Taurus (the new one...the Euro look is really cool)

What's been a letdown though is the new Mitsubishi Lancer (all trims) and the Subaru Impreza (all trims). Same to the generic midsize and full size sedans...like the Accord, the Camry, the Pontiac G6, the Mitsubishi Gallant, Chevy Impala, etc. But like I said I can understand why they look the way they do.

Sporty cars and fast cars though can always afford to be lookers, since only a select demographic of buyer (people like us) is seriously interested in buying them. And in this regard, I honestly do like the look of fast cars this generation.

- Chevy Corvette (the last two body styles were okay, but they looked too anonymous. The newest one does it right. I actually turn to look at the newer ones.)
- Chevy Camaro (Hell yes on this one! The car doesn't look like a speedboat anymore!)
- Audi R8 (the low slung look is very cool, as is the futuristic-looking design)
- Lamborghini Gallardo (what's really awesome is that this car's looks make it look huge when it's actually pretty small. It just has a massive presence in spite of its size)
- Nissan 370Z (it's all those headlights and tail lights. They're very eye-catching)
- Pontiac G8 (of course, I would think my car's beautiful too. But you have to admit it's practically a German car in looks compared to the Grand Prix and the Bonneville it was meant to replace until Pontiac got the axe. Now it will die with them. What a horrible shame for this car's life to be cut so short. I really hope GM decides to bring it back as a Chevy.)
- the new Jaguar sedan (Hell yeah! I'd love to own one of these with that swoopy coupe design. No more old-timey Lincoln looks!)

Now, fast cars I don't like the look of too much would be...the RX8, of course. Hate to sound sexist but it looks much too feminine to me. I would not consider buying one because of that. I also like the look of older Miatas better too...ditto to the Evolution and the Impreza STI. Older Ferraris I think also have more of a presence than the newer ones do. Hate to say it but they're starting to remind me of the older corvette body styles. Decent looking but...well...they're just harder to notice.)

For the generic cars, I can agree with the three pointed out: Fit (tiny car but still kind of attractive), Cobalt (I love the SS's - looks and sports car killer), Fusion (it's just gorgeous - wife loves them).

I was definitely unimpressed with the new STi's being a hatchback style car. However, I have seen one decked out in a fashion that I could enjoy - and that is Ken Block's STi.

Honestly, I have never been a big fan of Corvette's - I think it's the thoughts of those late 80's/early 90's models out there that are dime-a-dozen. The newest style aren't bad for looks, and I definitely enjoy the similarities in headlight design to the latest NSX's that were produced.

The new Camaro's are okay I guess, the front is decent but it's the rear end that is a turnoff for me. Something about it doesn't aesthetically please me...

Now, the 370's are hot if you ask me (Nissan-biased lovin' lol). I like the incorporation of some older Z details. I know it seems like everyone is trying to retro-design their sports cars but the newest Z is one of the better ones in my opinion.

I agree new cars probably arent worth it. I don't like cars with features such as ABS, TCS, etc. for the price of a new car, you can usually buy a reasonable used one thats still in good condition and still have money for some touch ups, mods, insurance, etc and still have money left over.

not to mention that the only current gen cars i would consider buying that I think of are:
MX-5: reasonable car but completely inferior to many others
solstice: See above
Genesis coup: same as above
S2000: great car but i'd probably want a to install roll cage for a convertable for safety reasons, and older cars are cheaper

I guess if i get really rich I may go for a ferarri or something, but thats unlikely, and i'd have mroe than 1 car.

With new cars you get depreciation. In 12 years, E36 328i's have come down in price by $/£32k Thats the main problem for me and you just dont get the character.

Cars these days are ugly as shit, what happened to curvy agressive hawtness like this

Now we have to put up with crap like this oversized, heavy, lead crystal ps3 on wheels that was designed with a wind tunnel and a ruler

I am beginning to like the new GT-R, but it will never compare to the 90's GT-R's.... ever. I'm a 90's car guy to the bone.

When it comes to american cars I like the 1950s to the early 1970s. When it come to Japanese cars I like the Late 1960s to the 1990s.

This is wrong. Yes its not as nice as R32's but R32's aren't as nice as KGPC's but are still good looking cars. The R35 is still easy on the eyes.

Granted, why_spyder, I really do like some of today's newest cars, but what you said is something I have to agree with you on! Long live the cars of the 90's!

hm...i have to say, the newer mazda's look ok
The new 3 and 6 definately take design cues from the RX-8 (the front fenders a bit) and it does make it look a bit more agressive.
I do however think the RX-8 looks great (well no where near as great as the FDs and FCs of yesteryear) compared to some other cars

The GT-R is also a car that sort of grew on me (i hated it at first when i saw the GT-R concept in GT4)

Meh about generic sedans and such. The new Matrix looks amazing, and i have been a fan of the later-gen Avalon since bout 2004. The Nissan flagships like the Altima and Maxima havn't been on my "liked" list since they came out with the newer models. idk nissan's new look kinda fails TBH

which includes the 370Z. Now i know i'm gonna get flamed for it, but i do love the look of the Z33 over the Z34. Its most likely because of the dead space towards the rear of the car (wing mirror-trunk)

I wouldn't flame anyone for liking one Z over another Z - they're still both Z's.

But seriously, everyone has different tastes and it would be childish to flame someone for this..

Just remember what kind of cars you are talking about though. Corolla's aren't sports cars, therefore they were designed with that group of people in mind. They were designed for hauling families and groceries - while still being economic. Just like the S13's, the AE86's weren't built for drifting - they were grocery-getters. It just so happens that Nissan had a bit more taste and built good looking Silvia's after the S13.... yay Nissan!
