Number one, the first GTO was so long ago I don't really care. Number two, you just picked the car I was going to use as an example for why the new G8 was a step in the right direction. Honestly, I think almost everything Pontiac released through the 90s up to the G6 looked way too overstyled...between all the scoops and bulges and whatnot. The G6 had the opposite problem...it was too understated.

The G8, to me, gets it right. It has a very clean look to it, especially from the back end, and the lines of it are very subtle and attractive. Meanwhile, there's hints of aggressiveness from the lean-forward stance and the rounded wheel wells. But it's not TOO overdone, unlike the 90s Pontiacs.

Not to mention I was very curious about what owning one of those big Australian brutes would be like. It wasn't my first choice (I wanted a sport compact like the WRX or the Mazdaspeed3), but it just cost so much less since there was an excess of them on the market. And unlike the compacts it runs on regular unleaded and the insurance was $50 a month cheaper. So despite having worse gas mileage I still save more money in the long run.

I personally like the look of the G8 as I like pretty much every car that is on 'that' platform, the VX Monaro being my personal favourite.

Am I the only person that thinks we need more 'cokebottles' and BMW needs to be sharknosed again?

I went to business school when I was in college. Let me just say it's not handy just for the career. It's also great training for lots of money-related issues you run into during your personal life. And having an entrepreneur for a dad helps too. I picked up a lot of lessons from him about how to handle money and get a good deal.

My mum's taught me how to deal with money, she's good at it. She saved up enough to buy a brand new house when she was just over minimum wage! :P

@Nail Strafer

there are lots of ways to save money, but they are often depriving in some ways.

if you want to know something really gross, my dad had a friend who never bought toilet paper. he uses a cloth which he washes.

more simple way i often try is usually looking for the cheapest things on the menu when i eat, and not buying pop everyday. semi deprieving but it sucks being unemployed student.

Buying sensible, keeping the money in a safe place. She's only ever had ONE credit card and thats my fault, made her use it to buy my computer off cyber power and to buy my games off steam, other than that she never uses the card. The most important though is, she knows that, If she doesn't have the money for something, she simply doesn't buy it, seems simple, but most people 'are doing it wrong.'

Oh yes, thank you but I already know...=D I considered the possibility that my car could definitely be in Forza 3 or Gran Turismo. Although I was a little afraid that them retiring the Pontiac brand would stop that, but it looks like it's all okay now.

Although I will say that's the GXP trim level G8, while I have the G8 GT. The GXP one has a 415 HP detuned Corvette engine, a different front and rear bumper, and a sportier suspension...while mine has a 361 HP V8. On the downside though the GXP is about $6,000 more expensive, it requires premium fuel, the fuel economy drops down significantly, and the performance gain is rather minimal and not really worth these costs.

Did you know that the current gen of Holden Commodore and its sisters was designed with the 5-series as a target? Oh, and the GXP made with an M5 in mind as a target too XD The G8 GXP has less horsepower, but more torque, and the 0-60 times are about the same too. And the GXP sells for less than half of what an M5 would cost XD

Yep. Most Saloons of that size are targeted at the 5 series. Aswell as most of the sport versions of saloons of that size being targeted at the M5. Tell you anything?

In the US, the G8's the only non-luxury sedan that can really compare to the 5-series in performance. Otherwise, you have to go for a much more expensive Japanese or European luxury car if you wanted a big size sport sedan.

Dodge has its own big RWD sedan...the Charger, but that's been out for a long time and it's showing its age. Plus it's more expensive than the G8 too. Although I will say that Ford is on the way with the new Taurus, and the SHO edition of that will have AWD and 355 HP, I believe.

Just personal preference hear. I'd rather have a 3.8 straight six e34 M5 than anything.

Don't like IS's that and the fact that the GS is closer to the 5 series. I do like them and I do like LS's
